LG plans a 55-inch OLED HDTV for 2012
Mar 20, 2011 OLED
As you may have already heard, LG plans to develop a 55-inch OLED HDTV by 2012. Many people have expressed their excitement regarding LG’s project, however there’s a downside to it.
The 55-inch LG HDTV will not have “true” OLED. The OLED coming with this TV will only be used as a backlight system, leading to lower power consumption and a much slimmer screen overall. This is an important step forward in the industry and can be compared to the moment when LED-backlight has been introduced to LCD panels.
Depending on the cost of the new technology, the prediction is that it will become popular as soon as it hits the market.
